Veterinary Dentistry Specialists (VDS) of Katy, Texas, a small animal single-specialty dentistry and oral surgery referral hospital, invites applications for a full-time associate veterinarian in dentistry and oral surgery.

Applicants must:

• have a DVM degree (or equivalent)
• be a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dentistry College (AVDC) (or have completed an AVDC-approved residency)
• have met the requirements to take the corresponding board examination
• be licensed or eligible for a regular license to practice veterinary medicine in Texas

The successful candidate will manage a breadth of outpatient oral surgery cases including but not limited to jaw fracture management, prosthodontics, orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and oral oncologic surgery. The candidate will also provide outreach to build relationships and educate the referring veterinary community through continuing education courses and lunch-and-learn visits. Currently, our office is staffed with a board-certified veterinary dentist and board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist in addition to a VTS (dentistry) technician and expert technical staff. Each dentist will be supported by 2-3 dedicated licensed veterinary technicians to provide optimum patient care. Additional hiring of staff may be considered if necessary. The candidate will be asked to support the training of student externs as well as a residency program in dentistry and oral surgery.

By July, VDS will have four locations throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. VDS is unique in that there is collegiality amongst all the diplomates in all VDS locations for collaboration. Our network consists of seven board-certified veterinary dentists, two AVDC residents, three board-certified anesthesiologists, and one board-certified cardiologist to collaborate with. VDS Katy has state-of-the-art equipment to provide the very best patient care. Our noteworthy equipment includes a Verity cone beam CT, Acteon piezotome, Kerr element e-motions motor and Endopal cordless units for lightspeed files, Bovie monopolar electrosurgery unit, and Progeny dental radiography equipment and software.  The treatment area is equipped with 4 wet tables with Adec 300 Pro delivery units (whip styles) and a Midmark 100 delivery unit for mobile versatility.  There is a separate surgical suite for sterile surgery as well.  We will regularly invest in equipment that is preferred so that the best medicine can be provided.

Veterinary Dentistry Specialists is currently seeking a full-time veterinary anesthesiologist to join our new practice in Madison, New Jersey. Madison is a lovely town located in North Jersey approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by car or 45 minutes via commuter train from Manhattan. This is a unique opportunity to practice high-level specialty medicine, with state-of-the-art equipment, in a small, friendly environment. The primary role of the anesthesiologist is to provide and manage a full anesthesia service to complement the dental surgeons. This should include both perioperative and postoperative care for all cases. Direct involvement in managing cases, along with providing support to an anesthesia-focused technical staff, is expected. The anesthesiologist will be directly involved in reviewing all medical records for each case to determine suitability for anesthesia, planning additional diagnostics, and formulation of a complete, personalized, anesthetic plan.

The anesthesiologist should also be involved in meeting clients and discussing anesthetic risks directly. Part of our core values at VDS is to have open discussions with clients about risks, our standards of care, and importantly, build a relationship with them. It is important that clients have the opportunity to meet with, and ask questions directly of, the anesthesiologist as this differentiates our practice.

The anesthesiologist is integral to the efficient running of the practice, and management of the surgical schedule. This requires working closely with the CSR staff to train/educate them on the types of procedures, and length of time for typical cases and identifying higher-risk patients that may need additional diagnostics or case review before scheduling a surgery. The anesthesiologist will work directly with the CSR staff to assist with how to appropriately pair cases and the number of cases per day. In addition to management of the schedule, the anesthesiologist is responsible for the management of the surgical cases that are admitted, planning the order of the day, managing staff breaks, and case turnover, and assuring adequate time for recovery. Finally, we expect the anesthesiologist to cultivate and support a culture that values the technicians as integral team members and works closely with the dentist to build a cohesive team committed to high-quality patient care.

Team building and leadership is an essential role of the anesthesiologist. Recruiting anesthesia technicians and training them on all aspects of anesthesia to VDS standards is vital. Building relationships with the referring veterinarians and being willing to provide them consultation on cases and training for their staff is important in helping both the community and building the business. Willingness to participate in VDS lecture series and CE events is desired.
