“Being diagnosed with a possible heart problem is very scary when it affects a beloved four-legged family member. As a veterinary cardiologist, diagnosing and treating the disease is the first step, but I believe in educating pet parents. Teaching about heart disease, how we treat it, what to look for, and how pet parents can help at home is an integral part of our success. My goal is more tail wags, purring, and great time together.”
Dr. Megan King earned her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating medical and surgical internship, followed by a two-year residency in cardiology at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. She then earned Diplomate status by becoming board certified in veterinary cardiology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Before joining VDS, she was the head of cardiology at Blue Pearl (CARES) in Langhorne, PA. Dr. King also has a mobile veterinary cardiology service, TriVet Cardiology.
Professionally, she has a special interest in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart disease, congestive heart failure, pericardial effusion, and pleural space disease.
Dr. King enjoys helping veterinary cardiac patients diagnosed with heart disease gain a better quality of life through monitoring, medications, and lifestyle adjustments. She also considers it part of her job to provide equal care for their pet owners, who often need help understanding and managing their pet’s heart problems. Her overall treatment goal is to give pets and their families more quality time together.
She lives in the Philadelphia area with her husband, two sons, and two German Shorthair Pointers, Raymond and Valee. In her spare time, you’ll find her enjoying life outdoors, including hiking, biking, skiing, being on the beach, and in the mountains.

“My passion for veterinary dentistry began as a general practitioner when I witnessed firsthand the positive impact dental care had on my patients. Seeing the dramatic improvement in pets’ lives once their mouths were pain-free has been one of the most rewarding aspects of veterinary medicine for me. I feel fortunate to work at VDS with talented specialists who have all trained in different programs. By bringing together their clinical experiences from both academia and private practice, their collaborative efforts help achieve the best possible patient outcomes.”
Melanie Hunt, DVM, earned her veterinary degree at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, New York. She then completed an internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and returned to her home state of New Jersey and worked as a general practitioner and medical director for many years. This was when she discovered her love for veterinary dentistry.
Time and again, Dr. Hunt witnessed firsthand how treating a pet for oral disease and alleviating oral discomfort could dramatically improve their health and quality of life. She never tired of hearing comments like “My dog is acting years younger since his dental procedure!” or “My cat is eating much better now after her dental procedure!” In addition, she benefitted from the unique opportunity to work alongside board-certified veterinary dentists throughout her career. These experiences led her to pursue advanced training in veterinary dentistry. She completed her veterinary dentistry and oral surgery residency at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists (VDS). Dr. Hunt has also been a Fear Free® certified practitioner for several years and is excited to see how Fear Free techniques have been integrated into daily practice at VDS.
She enjoys traveling outside of work, spending time with her family, including a rescue cat and labradoodle, and walking the NJ shore boardwalks.

“My years in general practice taught me the transformational effect of dental care. Many pet owners have shared that a dental procedure has transformed their dog or cat into a youngster again! Specialty training taught me the finer points of life-saving procedures, such as removing oral cancers and jaw fracture repair, and these are some of the most rewarding cases.
The great thing about VDS is our uncompromising patient care. Each patient receives the best care in the finest facility from the best staff and world-renowned specialists.”

“My decision to become a veterinary dentist was made during my time as a general practitioner. I performed a tremendous amount of general dentistry and developed a love for it then. I found that my patient’s quality of life improved after helping them obtain a healthy and comfortable mouth. My choice to work with VDS was simple: the standard of care is exemplary and I wanted to be a part of that. I can practice the highest level of medicine for my patients with cutting edge technology while working in a supportive environment with my colleagues. I am so fortunate that VDS has a network of brilliant veterinary dentists and anesthesiologists that allows me to collaborate with them to provide the best care to my patients if needed. The care that I can provide to my patients is second to none.”

“I found my passion in veterinary medicine early, I was in my second year of veterinary school, first week of classes, and I fell I love with anesthesia. For me, anesthesia’s draw comes from its need for a combined knowledge of medicine and physiology with an acute demand for problem solving. In clinical practice, anesthesia is vital for so many facets of veterinary medicine and the ability to facilitate procedures to improve animals’ quality of life is incredibly fulfilling.
At VDS I have the opportunity to manage anesthesia for high-risk patients and ensure patient comfort while working with a tight knit group of people that are passionate about what they do; make pets’ lives better!”
