Madison, NJ – July 8, 2024 – Veterinary Dentistry Specialists® (VDS), a specialty practice for pets in need of advanced oral care, has opened a new clinic location at 240 Main Street, Madison, New Jersey. Board-certified dentist, Ellen Scherer, DVM, DAVDC, is co-owner and medical director of the practice.
VDS is the only dentistry practice in the nation, where board-certified veterinary specialists in dentistry and anesthesiology work together with each patient to ensure optimal care. This unique combination of expertise, along with five-star service, provides the safest, most comfortable, and best possible outcome for each patient.
While oral health diseases are prevalent in most pets, there are only approximately 230 active board-certified veterinary dentists and 220 board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists in the United States.
Dr. Scherer earned her veterinary degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York City, and a three-year dentistry residency at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, subsequently earning status as a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. Prior to joining VDS’s new clinic in Madison, she practiced for 5 ½ years at a multi-specialty hospital in northern New Jersey.
“One of the best ways to take care of your pet’s oral health is through routine home care, along with regular professional examinations and cleanings by your primary care veterinarian. However, there may come a time when your veterinarian recommends more advanced treatment. That’s where we come in,” said Dr. Scherer. “I am proud to say that together with my talented team, pet owners throughout the region now have direct access to world-class, advanced oral care for their pets.”
Symptoms a pet may exhibit that could indicate treatment by a professional is needed include:
